Preheat the oven to 425°F. Rinse the baker with water and wipe with sponge, then dry with a towel. Generously fill the base about ¾ of the way with vegetable or canola oil. Place the baker in a oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven with mitts then let it cool for 2-4 hours. Pour the cooled oil into a bowl for future use. Wipe off the excess oil with a dry cloth then use it within the next few days. Wipe the base with oil for the next 2-3 times before baking. Note that the stoneware will darken the more it is used. This is completely normal and means that you are getting a nice, non-stick surface. CLEANING: Cool baker to room temperature before cleaning. Never use soap on unglazed stoneware.
